Updated November 2018
This postsecondary education initiative of the California Community College Chancellor’s Office (CCCCO) seeks to increase employer participation in apprenticeships and create new apprenticeship training programs.
Competitive grants are made in four areas:
$36.5m one-time funding and $22.7m ongoing Prop 98 General Fund funding in 2018-2019 budget
Related legislation: 2015-2016 California Budget Act
This initiative could benefit from incorporating intentional participant supports—individualized and differentiated to provide access and promote success for people with varying academic abilities and work experiences, and prior or unfinished credentials. Supports could be integrated through partnership with Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Title I programs for career services, and CalWORKs or other human services programs for case management or related support services.
Partnering with adult education pre-apprenticeship programs operating under WIOA Title II and/or Adult Education Block Grants could help adults gain basic skills needed to enter and succeed in these apprenticeships.
