California’s 45 local workforce development boards are organized into 14 regional planning units (RPUs). RPUs are implementing regional and local Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) plans that align partnerships with education, business, and community organizations for skill attainment, economic mobility and shared prosperity. Regional WIOA work explicitly focuses on in-demand sectors within and between geographic and political lines.

Regional organizing seeks to build on partnerships and practices started under Slingshot efforts as well as enhancing population specific strategies developed under the Workforce Accelerator Fund cohorts.
Regional organizers can insure that California’s WIOA local plan updates leverage the regional planning happening within the Strong Workforce and AEP planning requirements.
